India's Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, launched the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, which was previously known as the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, to better the healthcare services for the lowest strata of society in India.
This scheme offers an insurance cover of Rs.5 lakh per family per annum free through the premiums paid by the central and state governments. The Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana enables the poor to benefit from cashless secondary and tertiary healthcare. It aims to benefit 50 crore beneficiaries in the rural and urban areas of India. These people don't need to pay for any of the services because both the pre-and post-hospitalization expenditure are covered.
