Elgibility for PMJAY for Urban Areas

Ayushman Bharat Yojana, also known as Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), aims to help economically vulnerable Indians who require healthcare facilities. PMJAY's goal is to assist the urban areas to avail healthcare services by providing them yearly assistance of up to Rs. 5 lakh per family.

This scheme has certain pre-conditions by which it selects who can avail the health cover benefit. The rural areas consist of a list that is mostly categorized on lack of housing, meagre income, and other deprivations. On the other hand, the urban list of PMJAY, the beneficiaries are drawn up based on occupation.

Under this scheme, urban households are divided into 11 occupational categories of workers which are given below: 

  1. Occupational Categories of Workers
  2. Ragpicker
  3. Beggar
  4. Domestic Worker
  5. Street vendor/ Cobbler/hawker / Other service provider working on streets
  6. Construction worker/ Plumber/ Mason/ Labour/ Painter/ Welder/ Security guard/, Coolie and another head-load worker
  7. Sweeper/ Sanitation worker / Mali, Home-based worker/ Artisan/ Handicrafts worker / Tailor
  8. Transport worker/ Driver/ Conductor/ Helper to drivers and conductors/ Cart puller/ Rickshaw puller
  9. Shop worker/ Assistant/ Peon in small establishment/ Helper/Delivery assistant / Attendant/ Waiter
  10. Electrician/ Mechanic/Assembler/Repair worker
  11. Washerman/Chowkidar
