What is Ayushman Bharat- National Health Protection Scheme?

The Ayushman Bharat Yojana was launched on 23rd September 2018 by the respective Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and it became operational from 25th September 2018. Ayushman Bharat Yojana is also known as Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) and falls under the Ayushman Bharat Mission of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The Ayushman Bharat Yojana is the world’s largest government-funded healthcare scheme. The main objective of Ayushman Bharat Yojana Programme 2018 or Modicare is to make India free from diseases up to the year, 2025. It aims to provide health benefits to 40% of people in the country and medical insurance cover up to Rs 5 lakh per year. Under this scheme, 10.74 crore families would not incur the cost of hospitalization in the country. They would be able to get up to five lakh rupees for free. With an average of 5 members in each family, the scheme would benefit more than 50 crore people in the country. This government's health insurance scheme covers most of the pre-hospitalisation expenses, diagnostic, medical treatment costs, and medicines. To use its perks, the PMJAY e-card must be shown by the beneficiaries of the scheme.
