Mobile Banking over USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data)
USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) is a type of communication used to perform basic banking services. In this USSD, codes are provided by the banks to avail the banking services.
For this type of service, a smartphone or an internet connection isn't required. This service allows the user to do a balance enquiry and fund transfers.
99# is a USSD based mobile banking service, and it's launched by NPCI that is supported by 51 leading banks in India. The services offered by 99# USSD payment option are:
• Balance enquiry
• Mini statement
• Transfer of funds via A/c no, Aadhaar, and MMID
• Change MPIN
• Generate OTP
• Know MMID (Mobile Money Identifier – a 7-digit unique no. given by the respective bank)
To Send Money Using USSD *99# Using MMID & Mobile Number follow the steps below:
- Step 1: Register the bank account with mobile number and dial *99#
- Step 2: When the interface opens up, type 3 letters of your bank short name or first 4 letters of bank IFSC or 2-digit bank numeric code. Click ‘Send’
- Step 3: Now, pick number ‘3’ to send money and proceed key in payee/beneficiary mobile number
- Step 4: Proceed to input the beneficiary/payee MMID, transaction amount
- Step 5: Insert MPIN and last 4 digits of your bank account number
To Send Money Using USSD *99# Using IFSC Code & Bank Account Number follow the steps below:
- Step 1: Dial *99# from your registered mobile number
- Step 2: Proceed to input the 3 letters of your bank short name or first 4 letters of bank IFSC or 2-digit bank numeric code
- Step 3: Select the option of transferring funds using IFSC code and mobile number
- Step 4: Enter beneficiary/payee account number, IFSC code and transaction amount
- Step 5: Insert the MPIN and last 4 digits of your bank account number. A confirmation message will be displayed
