What are the documents required for opening a PPF account?

For several years the Public Provident Fund (PPF) has been the popular go-to tax saving investment scheme for Indians. The key reason for its continued popularity is that along with being the tax-free and reasonably high fixed rate of returns, it also assures low risk as a result of government backing. One can opt for it to diversify their portfolio. To open an account under the Public Provident Fund (PPF) scheme, the key documents that are required are as follows:

  1. First, fill a PPF account opening form which is termed as "Form-A". You can get this form from any authorized bank or from a post office too for opening a PPF account. 
  2. Proof of Address. 
  3. Two Passport-size photographs of the individual. 
  4. KYC documents are also required to verify the identity of the individual- PAN Card, Voter ID card, Aadhaar Card or Driving License. 
  5. You would also have to fill a Nomination form which is termed as "Form E". You can get this form from any authorized bank or from a post office too for opening a PPF account.
